1683 – po nedokončeném studiu na jezuitském gymnáziu byl dán do učení ke Kristiánu Schröderovi, který byl dvorním malířem a inspektorem císařské hradní obrazárny v Praze
1693 – oženil se s Helenou, rozenou Klossovou; jedno z prvních dochovaných děl Kající Maří Magdaléna pro kostel na Skalce v Mníšku pod Brdy (dnes kostel sv. Václava)
1694 – narození syna Maxmiliána; vedl spory s malířským cechem, nakonec se ale sám stal členem staroměstského malířského cechu
1697 – pro kostel sv. Josefa (Praha – Malá Strana) vytvořil oltářní obrazy Sv. Rodina a Vidění sv. Terezie – donace hraběte Václava Vojtěcha ze Šternberka
1699 – pobyt v západních Čechách na panství Kokořovských ve Žluticích a Lažanských v Manětíně – zde obrazy pro hřbitovní kostel sv. Barbory
1703 – malby pro kostel premonstrátek v Doksanech (na hlavním oltáři obraz Narození Panny Marie)
1707 – výzdoba hlavního oltáře klášterního kostela bosých karmelitánů ve Lnářích – Nejsvětější Trojice s Pannou Marií, sv. Augustinem, sv. Tomášem z Villanovy a sv. Zuzanou
1709 – účast na soutěži sochařské výzdoby Karlova mostu
1710–1715 – podniká v dolování zlata v Jílovém u Prahy
1715 – práce pro farní kostel sv. Jana Křtitele v Manětíně – Křest Páně smluvně sjednala hraběnka Marie Gabriela Lažanská spolu s obrazy Výchova Panny Marie a Sv. Antonín Paduánský a Ježíšek
1718–1723 – vznik šesti oltářních obrazů pro kostel sv. Markéty benediktinského kláštera v Praze v Břevnově
1721 – výpravný závěsný obraz Historie Josefa Egyptského objednaný Františkem Josefem hrabětem Černínem, pro něhož Brandl v tomto období intenzivně pracuje; téhož roku se také zintenzivňují spory s Helenou Brandlovou kvůli neplacení výživného na děti
1725 – dodává obraz Sv. Jan Nepomucký jako almužník do kostela sv. Otmara v Mödlingu u Vídně, jinak v tu dobu pracuje převážně ve východních Čechách
1727 – dokončen obraz Klanění tří králů na hlavním oltáři zámecké kaple ve Smiřicích náležející rodu Šternberků
1728 – od října v Hradci Králové v domácím vězení pro dluhy
1728–1729 – práce pro cisterciácký klášter v Sedlci u Kutné Hory – monumentální obraz na hlavním oltáři kostela Nanebevzetí Panny Marie (1787 přenesen do kostela sv. Vavřince ve Vysokém Mýtě) a dále malby Patronové země české, Vidění sv. Luitgardy a Sv. Juliána
1731 – pobyt v Kuksu u hraběte Františka Antonína Šporka
1731–1732 – pracuje ve slezském Křesoboru – obrazy pro kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie při tamním cisterciáckém klášteře (na hlavním oltáři Nanebevzetí Panny Marie a na oltářích postranních Smrt sv. Františka Xaverského a Sv. Jan Nepomucký jako almužník)
1734 – pobývá v Kutné Hoře, kde tvoří poslední díla (z dochovaných to je Umučení sv. Bartoloměje – dnes kostel sv. Bartoloměje v Kolíně a Nejsvětější Trojice – kostel sv. Jakuba)
1735 – 24. září zemřel v Kutné Hoře, pohřben v kostele Panny Marie na Náměti

1668 – christened on 24th October in St Wenceslas Church in the Lesser Town of Prague. Father was a qualified tailor and worked on the Falknov estate of the Nostic family; mother Alžběta, née Hrbková, came from the South Bohemian village of Přestanice; he had five older siblings
1683 – after incomplete studies at the Jesuit grammar school he was apprenticed to Kristián Schröder, who was a court painter and inspector of the Imperial Castle Picture Gallery in Prague
1693 – married to Helena, née Klossová; one of his first extant works was Kající Maří Magdaléna (Penitent Mary Magdalene) for the Na Skalce Church in Mníšek pod Brdy (today St Wenceslas Church)

1715 – work for the parish church of St John the Baptist in Manětín – The Baptism of the Lord was ordered on contract by Countess Marie Gabriela Lažanská together with the paintings The Education of the Virgin Mary and St Anthony of Padua and the Infant Jesus
1718–1723 – creation of six altar paintings for the Church of St Margaret of the Benedictine Monastery in Prague Břevnov
1721 – the narrative hung painting of The History of Joseph of Egypt, ordered by František Josef Count Černín, for whom Brandl was working intensively at this time; in the same year conflicts strengthened with Helena Brandlová due to his failure to support his children financially
1725 – he delivered the painting St John of Nepomuk Dispensing Alms to the Church of St Otmar in Mödling near Vienna; otherwise he was chiefly working in East Bohemia at this time
1727 – completion of the painting of The Adoration of the Three Kings for the main altar of the chateau chapel in Smiřice, belonging to the Šternberk family
1728 – from October under house arrest in Hradec Králové due to debts
1728–1729 – work for the Cistercian monastery in Sedlec near Kutná Hora – a monumental painting for the main altar of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin (in 1787 transferred to the Church of St Laurence in Vysoké Mýto) and also the paintings Patrons of the Czech Lands, The Vision of St Luitgarda and St Julian
1731 – stay in Kuks with Count František Antonín Špork
1731–1732 – working in Křesobor in Silesia – paintings for the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady attached to the local Cistercian monastery (on the main altar The Assumption of the Virgin and on the side altars The Death of St Francis Xavier and St John of Nepomuk as a Dispenser of Alms)
1734 – he was living in Kutná Hora, where he created his final works (of those still in existence these are The Martyrdom of St Bartholomew – today in St Bartholomew’s Church in Kolín and the Holy Trinity – St James’ Church)
1735 – on 24th September he died in Kutná Hora, buried in the Church of the Virgin Mary “Na Náměti”
